"Tom Sneva The Gas Man" (Tom Sneva,Texaco Star March 83-C/Cosworth, 1983, Indy 500) Tom Sneva won the 1983 Indy 500 in his Texaco Star. Starting from the second row, he dominated the race, led 98 laps and crossed the finish line ahead of runner up Al Unser Sr to claim his Indy 500 victory. Tom Sneva was stuck behind the lapped car of Al Unser, Jr., who was helping protect the lead of his father Al Unser despite being shown the blue "move-over" flag. Sneva takes advantage of slower cars to pass both Unsers in daring moves on the mainstretch and third turn on lap 190 and goes on to win Tom had a spectacular Indy 500 career , winning three pole positions, and was the first driver to qualify over 200 and 210 mph. He won the Indy Car National Championship in 1977 and 1978. An all around race driver,His career stats read 13 wins, 14 poles, two titles and 1,695 laps led.He was inducted in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America in 2005.
