Collectible Disneyana Auctions by Saturday's Toys presents...
the text that launched an entire new field of collecting... Cecil Munsey's DISNEYANA!
In the years following Walt Disney's death in 1966, the world was waiting for someone to represent their interest and passion for collecting memorabilia that reflected their strong appreciation for the entertainment legacy created by Walter Elias Disney. Finally, in 1974, Cecil Munsey published the very first major text to guide both experienced and novice collectors through the maze of five decades of Disney merchandise.
Munsey would republish original photographs from early merchandise catalogs along with personal black & white and color photographs from his own collection. Even includes photos from items on exhibit at the Walt Disney Archives. Even more than a quarter century later, only Tomart's Disney Catalog and Update has come close to providing the detail, variety, and volume of informative Disney merchandising information.
385 pages; very good, clean condition; with original dust jacket (protected behind removable mylar cover). Upper right corner of dust jacket previously torn, as shown; now protected behind mylar cover. Includes book plate of Chuck Thonney (1944 - 2011), son of Katherine "Kay" Thonney Calas, former co-founder of the city of Carson, California.
Long since out of print and never republished, this remains an essential text for every Disney library or archive.
Saturday's Toys and Disneyana Auctions is proud to present our HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION for Cecil Munsey's DISNEYANA.
Quoting from the article we contributed to Wikipedia: Disneyana is a generic term for toys, books, animated cels, theme park souvenirs and other collectibles produced by Walt Disney. While used informally among collectors in the 1960's and 1970's, the term was brought to prominence with the publication of the landmark text, Disneyana: Walt Disney Collectibles by Cecil Munsey in 1974 (Hawthorn Books Inc.). The Disneyana hobbyists grew exponentially throughout the 1980s and 1990s, and today's collectors can find tens of thousands of Disney items for sale at a variety of online auction sites, as well as at both regional and international comic and collectors shows. The term "Disneyana" is not a copyrighted term but is widely accepted as the appropriate reference for the tremendous assortment items produced using the characters created by Walt Disney and his studio. The term was acknowledged by The Walt Disney Company when it opened the Disneyana Store on Main Street, U.S.A. at Disneyland. In general, Disneyana produced during Walt Disney's lifetime (1901 - 1966) is considered to be among the most desired and valuable of this genre.

Saturday’s Toys and Disneyana Auctions
was founded in 1994 by Southern California author and Disney historian, Dave Mason. Soon after eBay's launch the following year, Saturday's Toys was among the first Disneyana specialists to strategize in embracing this rapidly developing technology. Having delivered over 10,000 coveted Disney treasures since then, Saturday's Toys is pleased to partner with researchers, collectors and friends throughout the world with a shared interest in the preservation of authentic and accurate Disney history.
Today, online offerings of archival Disneyana keepsakes are presented in celebration of the extended times that allow for family, friends and neighbors to join in memorable gatherings that nurture the strong connections that bind a community together. These treasures are affectionately known as "Saturday's Toys." In that light we present our adopted motto (with a tip of the cap to the Sherman Brothers):
"Oh, let's go fly a kite!"
